New York, NY—This weekend New York’s first retail body painting studio, DenArt, painted its 900th living canvas. Since 2011, 900 people have walked in their studio—with excitement and perhaps a bit of trepidation—took off their shirts (or more!) and worked with professional artists to transform their own skin into a masterpiece. The mission of DenArt studio is to take art off the museum walls and bring it to the people, through the relatable and empowering medium of body art.

DenArt offers several different body painting experiences, including private sessions and photo shoots, group classes, and professional bodypainting education. DenArt will even cater work parties or other professional events. Of the 900 bodies painted, some have even been professional models who help start the conversation via their body art at launch parties. DenArts’ past clients include Stoli to promote new flavors, Kings of Leon to promote the launch of new albums, and many others.

One popular body painting experience this season has been DenArt’s Paint in the Dark™ UV class, where couples or friends paint each other with glow-in-the-dark paint in complete darkness with only few black UV lights on. In a recent Valentine’s Day edition, 30 couples chose to celebrate each other by letting go of their inhibitions and their clothes and picking up a paintbrush. The classes challenge participants not only to be the canvas, but the painter as well. Working with DenArt’s cofounder and master painter, Danny Setiawan, and other painting instructors, the participants are encouraged to get out of their comfort zone and lean into the creativity and freedom of temporary body art and the cool tickle of the paintbrush on their skin.

DenArt’s large, professional and luxurious studio space (located at Studios LIC, 21-07 Borden Avenue, 5th Floor, Long Island City, NY 11101) helps to make clients feel comfortable as they shed their clothes and step into being living art. The popular Paint in the Dark™ UV class will come to in end in March, so that DenArt can continue to provide new and innovated spaces and experiences for New Yorkers who want to get back in touch with art.
